In the 79th Independence Day speech from Red Fort on 15 August 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new strategic idea – Mission Sudarshan Chakra. Why is this mission Sudarshan Chakra important?

Therefore, we have decided to start Mission Sudarshan Chakra. “Today, security threats are not limited to a single threat. An integrated security system is needed to prevent all these – cyber-attacks, drone strikes, terrorist activities, and attacks on important structures. Mission name and motivation
The name of this mission is taken from the context of the Mahabharata, where Lord Krishna stopped the Sun and gave Arjuna an opportunity to kill Jayadratha. Modiji described it as a symbol – where the impossible can also be made possible by resolution and strategy. He said. Just as Lord Krishna adopted a strategy to stop time to conquer Arjuna, so we have to protect our people in every situation.
What is Mission Sudarshan Chakra?
This mission is being designed as a national security creator (Rashtriya Suraksha Kavach). It will have three main components:
1. Multi-level defense system: Air surveillance and radar coverage, Missile defense, and Drone neutralization
2. Cyber and Data Safety: Protection of government and civic data. Stop attacks on digital infrastructure
3. Protection of important structures: Religious places, railways, airports, industrial zones, smart cities, etc.
Modiji also called it “Iron Dome of India“, which will not only protect, but will also respond to the enemy in the event of an attack.

Pilot deployment: in metro cities and border areas by 2028
